What do you do off the mat?
When I'm off the mat I work part time for a petrochemical company doing a forensic audit. I am having great fun with my new dog. I enjoy the beach, crochet, reading, cooking and gardening.
What brought you to Brandywine Yoga for the first time?
I came to Brandywine after Turks Head closed. I went to another studio in between but when I came to Brandywine, I felt at home.
What's your favorite thing about the studio?
I like the happy feeling at Brandywine - everyone is cheerful. My very favorite feature of Brandywine is the teachers. Lisa selected the best teachers around. The teachers are students so this brings something new to the practices. I like being adjusted by teachers to correct my alignment when needed.
What's your advice to someone coming to yoga for the first time?
My advice for someone beginning yoga is to be open minded and to focus on breath.
What has your yoga practice given you?
Yoga has given me stress relief. My former job was intense and yoga got me thru the difficult times. The different crisis situations were still there but yoga put them in perspective. I have bad arthritis in my knees and hip and yoga helps the pain. Yoga was a RX from my doctor. I feel more peaceful and more spiritual with yoga and I can certainly feel a need for yoga if I miss it for a few days.
What is your favorite pose?
Favorite pose is Artie C. Love how it opens me up and makes me feel.
Your least favorite pose?
Lease favorite is chair pose. I feel the stress in my lower back.
Tell us something unusual about yourself.
Something unusual - hmmmm. I'm pretty boring but I do like Don Julio tequila straight up.
What three words would your best friend use to describe you?
My friends described me as fun, loyal and a good listener.
What's your guilty, or not so guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is snuggling with Tyler (dog) and listening and singing to loud chick music in the car.
Have you made any big changes in your life since starting your practice?
I've been practicing yoga for 15 years on and off and there have been lots of changes. Quit smoking! Since starting yoga, I can listen or feel my body more. I know when I need to rest and when I need to work harder.
If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone, past or present, who would you invite?
If I had a fantasy dinner party, I would invite Dr. Jane Goodall to share some science (went to one of her lectures), Anderson Cooper for current events and John Legend or John Mayer to serenade me and a bunch of family members/friends.
